Koena Mitra is a model and Indian actress originating from Kolkata. She was born on 7th January 1984. She received her schooling from a High School in her hometown and later did her bachelor’s in Psychology from University of Kolkata. She is a trained dance, with extensive training in Western dance. She also played basket ball, tennis and participated in swimming during her college days. She was keen interested to become an athlete.
Koena took up modeling very early at the same time as she was in school. In 2002 she won a major beauty contest in India, and later had the honor of finishing first runner up in Miss intercontinental. She has also participated in Beijing and Milan fashion week.
Koena’s first acting assignment in bollywood was the special appearance in Ram Gopal Verma’s thriller Road. She got her first complete role in the movie Musafir alongside Anil Kapoor & Sunjay Dutt and danced in the hit song Saki Saki. In the year 2005 she starred opposite Fardeen Khan in the successful venture titled Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena. The movie was a box office success and it gave Koena Mitra her first taste of success in the bollywood industry. Her performance in the movie received great reviews. After that she featured in movies like Insan, Apna Sapna Money Money, Cash, Agar, Anamika, Ayan and Asal but all of the mentioned movies except for Apna Sapna Money Money which was a relatively successful movie turned out to be box office flops.

Mitra was born in Kolkata, West Bengal to a Bengali Hindu family. She attended South Point High School and Lady Brabourne College of the University of Calcutta. She has a major in psychology. Mitra was trained with the Mamata Shankar ballet troupe for 12 years. She trained in western dance forms, basketball, swimming and tennis. Her dream was to be an athlete. She started her career too early and that had created a lot of tension in her family; she mentioned that on a TV show right after winning the title. She had almost bag packed and left her house. Mitra was in high school when she won the all India title.

She later went on to become the first runner up of Miss Intercontinental in Germany out of 84 countries.
